Help and frequently asked questions

What does tinnitus sound like?

Answer:

People experience tinnitus in many different ways but it is normally described as a ringing sound. However, some people will hear sounds such as buzzing, humming, or whistling.

It is common for the sounds to change. When people are under stress they may feel that their tinnitus changes in pitch or tone and becomes more intrusive.

Sometimes tinnitus noise beats in time with your pulse – this is known as pulsatile tinnitus.

You can hear some example of tinnitus sounds on our page about the condition.
